Sundance 2020′s 118 movies: Taylor Swift, an alien invasion, Pepe the Frog, and more

Here are the 118 titles selected to screen at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, running Jan. 23-Feb. 2 in Park City and at venues in Salt Lake City and the Sundance resort in Provo Canyon.

Whirlybird • A profile of Zoey Tur, who revolutionized aerial journalism over Los Angeles with his then-wife, Marika, in the 1980s and 1990s — including being the first to broadcast O.J. Simpson’s slow speed chase in 1994. Director Matt Yoka also details how Tur, whose daughter is MSNBC host Katy Tur, came out as transgender in 2013.

Sundance ’20: “Crip Camp”, “Miss Americana” among doc premieres

Sundance Institute has revealed the showcase of independent feature films selected for its flagship festival, with Miss Americana, Crip CampUs Kids and Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story among the documentaries premiering.

The U.S. Documentary Competition of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival comprises 16 world premieres, including Crip Camp (pictured), while the World Cinema Documentary Competition comprises 12 titles having their world or international premieres.

A selection of 118 feature films across all categories announced today (Dec. 4) were culled from a record 15,100 submissions.

The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 23–February 2, 2020. The Sundance Film Festival is Sundance Institute’s flagship public program, widely regarded as the largest American independent film festival and attended by more than 120,000 people and 1,300 accredited press, and powered by more than 2,000 volunteers last year.

Rather than react one story at a time to negative media coverage of the transgender community, producer, activist and writer Andrea James wants to map out the bias, in hopes of eventually eliminating it.

What’s new: For the past year, James has been working on a data visualization project tracing connecting threads and shared sources in biased coverage. On Monday, James is going public with the effort, called The Transphobia Project, and launching a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of being able to fully fund the effort.
