America’s Gaysian Sweetheart and Nonprofit Organization Join Forces to Encourage the LGBT Community to Build Families through Fostering and Adoption.
LOS ANGELES, CA—RaiseAChild.US is pleased to announce its participation as the exclusive Outreach Sponsor for “Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy,” a documentary about actor/comedian Alec Mapa’s one-man show focused on his experience adopting his son from the foster care system. RaiseAChild.US is a national nonprofit organization that encourages the LGBT community to build families through fostering and adoption, to serve the needs of the 400,000 children in the U.S. foster care system.
A talented actor who has appeared in television and film and on
stage, Mapa has been featured in recurring roles on ABC’s
“Desperate Housewives” and “Ugly Betty,” and is now starring in
ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth.” In “Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy,” Mapa
masterfully weaves hilarious anecdotes with compelling insight for
prospective fost-adopt parents, explaining why they should build
their families through the foster care system. The film is directed by Andrea James and produced by Mapa’s husband, Jamison Hebert.
“Our son Zion is the greatest gift my husband and I ever received,” says Mapa. “It is a great privilege to tell our story and inspire others to became parents through the foster care system.”
“Alec has been the highlight of many RaiseAChild.US outreach efforts and events to encourage and educate our LGBT community to foster and adopt,” says Rich Valenza, RaiseAChild.US Founder and CEO. “We are pleased to support his movie as an Outreach Sponsor so that more people can experience his message.”
According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Administration for Children & Families, there are 400,000 children in our nation’s foster care system. More than 104,000 of these children are available and waiting to be adopted. Families certified for either foster or adoptive placements are in short supply.
RaiseAChild.US campaigns welcome and support prospective LGBT parents while putting images of LGBT families into public spaces through PSAs, print media, and outdoor advertising. Since 2011, RaiseAChild.US has engaged more than 2,000
prospective parents nationally and has become a leading organization for public education and advocacy on behalf of the 400,000 children awaiting foster and adoptive homes. For more information, visit www.RaiseAChild.US.
